Pitigliano is best known and best loved destinations in the Tuscan Maremma.<\/p>\n

It is also officially recognised as a\u00a0Borghi pi\u00f9 Belli d\u2019Italia<\/em>\u00a0(one of Italy\u2019s Most Beautiful Villages) thanks primary to its location, perched on a cliff of local stone known as tufa, from which it dominates the valleys and rolling hills of Tuscany.<\/p>\n

Pitigliano is a town to be discovered. Its narrow streets, alleyways and hidden squares beckon you to explore and discover the wonderful panoramic views from all angles.<\/p>\n

Nicknamed Little Jerusalem, Pitigliano is home to a Jewish Quarter, where you can visit some fascinating ancient buildings carved into the tufa rock.\u00a0They include the Synagogue, the Forno delle Azzime bakery, the cellar, the Kosher Butcher and the Ritual Bath. The quarter has long since been abandoned and these buildings are part of a fantastic museum\u00a0located between Via Zuccarelli and Vicolo Marghera.<\/p>\n

Pitigliano definitely can\u2019t be visit in a day, so plan to spent the night in one of the town\u2019s lovely\u00a0bed and breakfasts, sleek hotels or tiny apartments. If you\u2019re looking for something a little more spacious, head out of town and into the countryside to bunker down and enjoy the\u00a0simple genuineness of an agriturismo. Here you can relax after a day exploring the town and the sights that surround it with a walk through olive groves and vineyards or a dip in the pool.<\/p>\n
