Each town has its own history, its traditions and its typical products and Pitigliano is no different.<\/p>\n

Pitigliano\u2019s local products combine local and Jewish culture, creating something that is unique to this part of Tuscany.<\/p>\n

Along with its own traditional products, Pitigliano is famous for a wealth of Jewish staples like kosher red and white wine, Jewish sweets and unleavened bread.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of stores throughout the town where you can buy these and other locally produced products. In some restaurants, you can also taste local wine and dishes inspired by the peasant culture and history of the region.<\/p>\n

WINES:<\/strong>\u00a0The co-op winery of Pitigliano and other private wineries produce an array of excellent white, red and sparkling wines. From the famous Bianco di Pitigliano DOC to the Rosso Toscano, Rosso di Sovana and many others, all recognized with the DOC or IGT mark.<\/p>\n

MIGLIACCIO:<\/strong>\u00a0the migliaccio is a variant of the famous Ciaffagnone di Manciano, a sort of crepe with a much lighter list of ingredients.\u00a0In fact, it is prepared with water, flour, extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of salt, then cooked in the pan like an omelette but much thinner and served with jam or sugar.<\/p>\n

SFRATTO DI GOYM:<\/strong>\u00a0together with the Bianco di Pitigliano, the sfratto is Pitigliano\u2019s most famous product. It\u2019s a stick shaped biscuit stuffed with nuts and honey. It\u2019s linked to a story from the 17th century when the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo II de\u2019Medici issued an edict that forced the Jews of Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano to live in the Jewish Ghetto. During this time, the men of the Grand Duke knocked on the doors of the Jews with a stick ordering them to leave. The sfratto is shaped like that stick.<\/p>\n

KOSHER WINES<\/strong>: these are wines produced according to kosher rules. In Pitigliano this tradition is carried out by the Association La Piccola Gerusalemme, the wines are on sale in some local shops.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
